Soul calypso music
Soul calypso (Soca) is a kind of dance music that first emerged from calypso music of the Islands of Trinidad and Tobago.
It initially mixed the melodic rhythmical sound of calypso with persistent percussion (which can be associated with electronic) and local indigenous music.
Soca appeared not so lng ago, in the 20th century, first by musicians from different English-speaking Caribbean countries including Trinidad, Guyana, Barbados, Grenada, Saint Lucia, British Virgin Islands, The Bahamas, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Jamaica and Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, United States Virgin Islands, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The alias of the Trinidad and Tobago native football team, the Soca Warriors, comes from this music genre.
The admitted former of soca was Lord Shorty (Garfield Blackman), was born in Trinidad and Tobago. His famous hit "Indrani" in 1973 started the trend.

A successful musician, composer and originator, Ras Shorty experimented with combining of Calypso music (African derived) with East Indian rhythms and for about one decade before "the soul of calypso,"...soca music.
Shorty had cooperated with Dominica's 1969 Calypso King, Lord Tokyo and two calypso songwriters, Chris Seraphine and Pat Aaron in the early 1970s on his visit to Dominica.
Soon Ras released a song, "E-Petit" which included such words as "Ou dee moin ou petit Shorty" (meaning "you told me you are small Shorty"), a junction of calypso, cadence and Creole.
It would be Lord Kitchener who would begin the perceptible and accredited reformation. In accordance with Lord Kitchener's manager Errol S. Peru, the initiator in promoting calypso & soca music, "Kitch had a knack for Kaiso... anything he composed was instantly a hit."
Byron Lee & the Dragonaires turn soca into a West Indian social trend, but the Baha Men, Kevin Lyttle and others in the 21st century brought it to American acknoladgment.
